Why I Earned My Military Relocation Professional (MRP) Certification

As a Coast Guard spouse for the past 20 years, military moves have been part of our family's story.

We've navigated PCS orders, long-distance house hunting, temporary housing, new schools, new communities, and all the emotions that come with starting over in a new place. I know firsthand that a military relocation isn't just about finding a house. It's about helping a family build a home in an unfamiliar city while balancing timelines, careers, deployments, and the unique demands of military life.

That's one of the reasons I love helping military families relocate to Charleston.

Recently, I earned my Military Relocation Professional (MRP) certification through the National Association of REALTORS®. While the certification represents specialized training in military relocation, the real value comes from combining that knowledge with the personal experience I've gained through two decades of military life.

What Is a Military Relocation Professional (MRP)?

The Military Relocation Professional (MRP) certification is designed to help real estate professionals better serve active-duty service members, veterans, and military families.

The training focuses on understanding military culture, PCS timelines, housing benefits, relocation challenges, and the unique needs of military buyers and sellers.

Military families often face circumstances that traditional homebuyers don't, including:

• Tight relocation timelines
• Long-distance and virtual home searches
• Frequent moves
• Temporary housing needs
• VA loan considerations
• Purchasing a home before arriving in a new city
• Coordinating housing decisions around military orders

The MRP certification provides additional education and resources to help navigate these situations more effectively.

Why This Certification Matters

Military relocations are different.

When orders arrive, families often have a limited amount of time to make major decisions. They may be trying to choose a neighborhood from hundreds of miles away, coordinate a move across the country, enroll children in school, and purchase a home all at the same time.

Having a REALTOR® who understands those challenges can make a significant difference.

As a military spouse, I've experienced many of these decisions myself. I've been the person researching neighborhoods online late at night, trying to figure out commute times, school options, and whether a community would feel like home.

That experience allows me to approach military relocations from a different perspective. I understand that clients aren't just looking for a house. They're looking for confidence, clarity, and someone they can trust on the ground.
